Rochester NY Mandolin Orchestra debuts Sept. 14
Over the past year, Tom Napoli here in Rochester has turned a series of impromptu Saturday sessions at Bernunzio's Uptown Music, into an organized and rehearsed ensemble, with membership varying from a dozen to nearly 20, and a full range of instrumentation -- mandolin, mandola, octave mandolin, mandocello and mando-bass (me), plus guitar. The Rochester Mandolin Orchestra will make its public debut on Saturday, Sept. 14, 11 a.m. at the North Winton Village Festival of the Arts[ (note that the website still shows last year's entertainment schedule; it should be updated ASAP).
Repertoire for the first concert includes (if it can be fitted into a 50-minute gig):
Ashokan Farewell
Bacio D'Angelo
Flavia (a mazurka)
O Mio Babbino Caro
Jenny Lind Polka
When I Marry You (a waltz)
Stella (another mazurka)
Songe d'Amour apres le bal
Potatisvals (a weird-rhythm "waltz" by Puccini)
