Question What sort of instrument is this and what is it worth?

I have what I think is a lute - though it has a much longer and straighter neck.
From the bottom of the sound box to the first tuning peg is 98cm.

Currently missing strings and some of the tuning pegs are missing/broken.
There are seven holes for tuning pegs.

Any thoughts about what it might be would be gratefully received.

PS I will be looking for a new home for it as I don't play and it seems to be a shame for such a beautiful instrument not to be being used.

It’s not a Lute its a Saz from Turkey. I haven’t the slightest idea what it’s worth but I doubt it’ll be very much.

It's a baglama saz as noted; missing plastic tuning pegs, etc.; worth $50-150 bucks at best.

Thanks that is very helpful. I wondered if it might be a colascione but I think you are right it does look more like a saz.

Makes life much easier if it isn't worth much.

Very cool. I just happen to have a smaller version hanging on the wall beside me right now. I picked it up in Turkey decades ago, but never learned to play it. (Mine has a scale length of about 15 inches.)
It does bring back some happy memories of travels though.

Wow, looks really nice, but I imagine it’d be difficult to sell because after tone, a lot depends on the neck and the action.

I bought one at auction once out of curiosity. I did a neck reset on it, not a typical dovetail neck joint reset, lol! This one had newspaper cartoons glued in for lining reinforcement.
