i bought a capek bouzouki off ebay . my summer find. i have found august on e bay is a time when there are deals some years.

so has anyone else played a capek zouk?

restrung it is a higher end trinity college like tone. single heavy x bracing inside. lots of volume. thin neck which i like. maple back and sides and spruce top.

so what do people know about capek?

i'll put up a few pictures soon

Capek is a Czech instrument maker. His mandolins are highly regarded. Don't know about his bouzoukis.

I was sorely tempted by one of his tenor banjos just before the Music Room in Cleckheaton ceased trading - that settled it!

it had greek bouzouki strings which were ancient. so i put new strings on it and it sings. hadn't been played for a while so it took about an hour of playing to really wake up the wood. i would compare it to a trinity college on steroids. maybe the new high end trinity with the triangluar sound hole--which i haven't played in person, but i imagine is a step up from the standard trinity.

Lovely looking instrument. I have played a Capek mandolin and really liked it. Ollaimh, could you please get a pair of side cutters and cut off the excess string coils. Please!!!!

for the unwound strings the coils stop the string pulling any further than necessary. i hate knots. they are awfull to undo
