Default New to forum - Darrell Scott Mandolin

    Hello everyone!

I am new to the forum, but I picked up the mandolin a few months ago and I am trying to learn some songs. I recently discovered a video of Darrell Scott performing "it's a great day to be alive" on the mandolin. Would any of you have any thoughts on the chords or riffs he is using? I might be getting my chords crossed, but I think he is in the key of F and using Bb and C throughout the song. Am I on the right track? I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions you folks might have! Thank you!

You're on the right track. It's in F, chords used are F - Bb - C, with a Dm and Am at times. Hard to pick out individual riffs, but it's all based on the F major scale with slides and grace notes thrown in. He's playing it with a capo at what I'm imagining is the third fret, so he's in D relative to the capo, using open D, G and A chords.
