Default When I Get My Reward, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

I have just came across this song and really like it. Being a newbe the timing has me lost. I think it's 3/4 but not sure. Could someone help me out with a strum and chop pattern? Thanks for any input

Yep it's 3/4. Here's a Don Julin video about a basic waltz strum pattern. The pattern in When I Get My Reward is similar yet not as straight. Hope it helps. Good Luck!

Wow a nitty gritty song that I missed! I like it. I am no expert trapper by any means, but when I play Mr bojangles I like to fingerpick it verses strumming. It's a little tricky on a mando but it sounds good. I want to try it with banjo picks, but have not picked up a set yet. Just a thought

This is a great song to learn how to "noodle" which is what the mando is doing during this song. This style of playing comes in handy when a steady rhythm pattern would overpower the arrangement. This song has only 2 chords E & B7 so it pretty easy to get your bearings since you have a 50% chance of being on the correct chord. Start by playing the 5 on the chart which sounds good at all times. I would next recommend alternating between the 1 and the 7 the the 3 and the 4 and on and on. Work on playing the numbers striking one note at a time generating rhythms that fit feel of the song. Next add tremolos, pull-ons from one number below and double-stops as used in the song. Follow the directions on the left of chart.

mandotrucking I too overlooked this song for years. I think it came out on the " Will the Cirlce Be Unbroken" album. Musical, I'm play with your instruction. I think this has put me on the right track. Thanks
