I had to point out the beauty of the peg head on this mandolin being listed on the MC Classifieds -- Incredible!

Two Old Gibson A Mandolins passed down through my wife's family. These are the mandolins that got me started on mandolin in 1982. Then I didn't touch it again until 2013.
To each his own, to me it's a bridge too far. Maybe two. Give me a classic fern.

I've seen some beautiful inlays, and I think my favorite is the rose on Doyle Dykes' signature Taylor. I also really like the Rose and Bluebonnet inlays available on Pava mandolins
Mandolin: Kentucky KM150
Other instruments: way too many, and yet, not nearly enough.

I'm kind of a traditionalist, I've always loved flower pots.

When they open up they sound so much better.....![]()
Play it like you mean it.
I like Will Kimble's take on deco-style inlays. Classy, unique, eye catching.
There's such a great range of inlays I've seen on mandolin headstocks. I think it's almost impossible to call anything inlaid on the F style headstock (already a thing of ostentatious design) over the top. I like them from just a tasteful script to the audacious cacophony that is the Butch Baldassari's white Gibson F5
My personal favorite is the Torch and wire with Handel Tuners.

Not really my favorite, really just an excuse to post a pic of the infamous squid mandolin.
Cabin Fever String Band, Bill Gorby and the Musical Mercenaries
I really enjoy a good torch and wire headstock but that's about as far as I would go.

I think the Torch & Wire is about the prettiest ever. I love this one. Copied off Tom Ellis' F4.... this is the first double flower pot Ellis .![]()
Since you did say, ‘prettiest inlays ever’....Larry Robinson (the grandpoobah), Harvey Leach, and Grit (William) Laskin perform some of the finest custom inlay work anywhere in the world. It’s a master craft and in its own category....indulge the art!

The Schmergel Devastator has hands down the most blindingly beautiful headstock inlay. It’s simply too brilliant to post photos without risk of retinal damage.
If anyone is interested in learning how to do inlay Dave Nichols at Custom Pearl Inlay in Malone, NY has classes on pearl cutting and inlay. I've never taken that class but a trip to Dave's shop is without a doubt an experience one should have sometime in their lifetime.
He's also a mandolin builder and player.
