    Default $1000.00? Mandolin

    Hi everyone!

Why is the "White Lightning for sale on ebay $1000.00? Seems it's been on there a couple of years and the seller never responds - ever
Seems it's just a so-so mando with white paint on it. Than again, I've been wrong in the past. (most of the time, in fact)

Just curious. Morgan Monroe is, at best, a rather "modest" brand.

The seller has a total Feedback of three as a buyer, not a seller, but all positive. All are over a year old.

They say they are in Soddy Daisy, TN, a town I'm familiar with. I know people that live there.

I would hazard a guess that they bought it thinking it was a treasure. I remember seeing one of these years ago, I remember nothing about it other than it was white.

Here are a few older threads on the subject,

I'm about 20 minutes from there. Maybe I should see if he'll take a trade for my Eastman (although I'm not sure how that white would look under stage lights... front-row listeners might be blinded).

I had a Morgan Monroe Tree Of Life mandolin in like 2004. Thick finish and so so. I suspect your Eastman is superior. I wouldn't drop $1000 on that White Lightning. YMMV.

The few Morgan Monroe's I've handled ranged from 'just OK' to 'don't even bother.' Some were real pretty with inlay and such. I wouldn't give over $500 for the best of the best by MM. There are just better options out there.

I've seen Weber Gallatins going for a grand occasionally (very occasionall) and a few other brands like flatiron and Silverangel at around $1200. $1000 is a tough budget only the worthy master series Kentuckys go for used.

The other suspects mentioned I have no experience with.
