Default Sheets / scores arranged for three mandolins, for a wedding

    Dear Mandolincafe community,

I am a bit nervous since it is my very first message here. Firstly, I am getting married!

But this is not the subject of course. The subject is that I am looking for some nice or recognisable mandolin sheets / scores / tabs (I am not sure what the correct English word is) to play together with my two brothers at my wedding. We thought it would be a sort of nice reference to our childhood, when we used to play the mandolin. Our level is not very good I would say. We can play any decent melody, but not something especially technical, thinking Vivaldi here - no way. Also, we had a professor who mostly gave us classical and Italian songs - this is what what we are mostly used to. I played recently also some Irish and Bluegrass music. However, I kinda struggle with Jazz and Blues.
So, I would be immensely grateful to who could send me one or two nice melodies arranged for three mandolins.

Thank you very much and have a good day, everyone!

    Hi Cosmin,

Welcome to the Cafe, and congratulations on getting married!

Have a look at Evelyn Tiffany-Castiglioni's pieces arranged for three mandolins. She has made many of them available for free on the Cafe, in these two threads:

    https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/t...ic-from-Evelyn

    https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/t...mandolin-trios

If you want more choice, she also has three more (very big!) books on Amazon.

    Good luck!

    Martin

    Hello Martin,

Thank you very much for the wishes and for the recommendations. Wow! It looks as quite an excellent number of songs from where I can choose from! I cannot wait to sing them

    Thanks again!

    Thank you!!

I also welcome other suggestions for sheets arranged for three mandolins, if you guys have!

Many of Evelyn's melodies are just great. The bit of a problem is that they are very short, under one minute long, so I would have to play at least 2 or 3 consecutively so that everything not to look too fragmented.

    Thanks.

    Hi Cosmin,

The more folky of the tunes in Evelyn's books are intended to be repeated multiple times, and to be combined into sets with a suitable transition.

For more classical material, have a look at the link below -- these are simplified arrangements of popular wedding-type classical pieces intended for string trios of two violins and cello. I have played several of these on mandolins, and they work just fine although you would need to transcribe the cello part to treble clef possibly with some adjustments of the octave in which to play.

This has the respective wedding marches of Wagner and Mendelssohn, but I would suggest you have a look at the trio arrangement of the Largo from Vivaldi's "Winter", as this one is particularly well-suited to mandolins and not difficult:

Another suggestion would be Bach's three-part inventions, arranged for two mandolins and guitar by our own John Goodin -- the guitar part is playable on third mandolin instead. Have a look at the Bach pieces at this link:

John has also published a collection of 64 original tunes set for two mandolins plus chords -- these may be suitable with the third mandolin playing either arpeggio or strummed accompaniment on these chords:

Finally, the following trio arrangements of early music by Steve Hendricks are particular favourites of mine -- Morley's "It Was A Lover An His Lass" should work very nicely at a wedding (played twice through):

It Was A Lover And His Lass
    Dormendo Un Giorno
    The Bonny Bonny Broom
    Argeers
Now Is The Month Of Maying

    Good luck!

    Martin
