Because I like them. Their feel, tone, aesthetics. Good mandolins are expensive because they’re worth it!

My Carbon Mix is in tune for months.. My 1922 A4 was too nice to pass up ..
those 2 both have been played enough to need refrets ..

The pleasure of playing a high quality instrument has very little to do with where you play it. My mandolins can fill a room at home and fill the room at church. In the rare case that I'm in a jam session, they cut through just fine. The investment was secondary to the experience of the instrument. As someone said earlier, the value can be captured by my kids when the time comes. I just need to assemble a record of each instrument for their reference. As a former semi professional player, I'm blessed to had gathered a nice set of tools.
