I’ve got 10 mandolins, but about 45 trumpets.

It's a simple formula.
n=m+1
where n is the number of mandolins you need and m is the number of mandolins you have.
2010 Heiden A5, 2020 Pomeroy oval A, 2013 Kentucky KM1000 F5, 2012 Girouard A Mandola w ff holes, 2001 Old Wave A oval octave

Let me make one thing perfectly clear -
I do not own and have never owned even one mandocello.
Collings MT O
Collings MF5 0
Weber Gallatin Mandola
Weber Bitterroot Mandola
Weber Sage Octave
For 24 hrs I was down to 3 mandolins. I had a Eastman 305 in the shop for a setup and someone wanted to know if I'd sell it. Sure, why not. When I went to drop off the gig bag that belonged with it I fell in love with a Northfield the luthier was playing. 24hrs later the money from the Eastman went towards the Northfield. It's a disease.
Out of tune and out of time.
One. But I have my eyes open.
I've had an Old Wave A oval-hole for about 18 years and have paired that an f-holed mandolin. Over the years I've had a Gerald Anderson A, a Collings MT, and two Old Wave C# (2-point) mandolins. So, mostly I've had two, but just recently sold a 2-point Old Wave F-hole leaving me the my Old Wave A that's served me well over these past 18 years. Gonna see how long I can last with just one.
8 mandolins (4 bowlbacks, a Weber Bitterroot oval, a Pava, a Collings, and a Kentucky,) 8 acoustic guitars, and 2 violins. But I have bought nothing in over a year, so I think my GAS/MAS are under control (for now.) Why? They all sound different to me.
The most I've owned is 3, I'm currently at 2 with an electric mandolin getting ready for finish and then it will be 3 again.
Most mandolins is 4
Most banjos is 1
Guitars, whole 'nuther story -- before we bought our house 10 years ago I was at 130 or so, sold some down to 5 or 6 old favorites -- now, I'm back to 50 or so....
I used to think I was a sentimental person, the reason I hang onto stuff -- but most of my stuff is used/vintage -- so that would mean that I am being sentimental about someone else's history, which wouldn't make a lot of sense.......
But, rather than call it "hoarding" I prefer to say that this is just "what I do!"
i will not count bouzoukia,(irish or greek) octave mandolins, citterns(early or modern) waldzithers, mandolas,or mandocellos.
so i have four gibsons , 1917 arlite, a 1923 junior(real sweetie) as 1923 snakehead, and a 1924 snakehead. a 1949 martin style A, an old wave, and an el toro by silver angel. so seven. i could sell three or four, and feel fine, but i am down to ones i like a lot. i have more cittern/zouk family instruments, and more guitars.
5 mandolins at one time, 2 currently, 53 total
And since you did not ask I won't mention :
Guitars 7 currently, over 100 total
Banjos zero currently, 14 total
Button accordeons 3 currently, over 50 total
TIFKAD zero, 5 total
