Suffragette March

Hey, my orchestra just played a gig for a "Suffragette Centennial" event in Seattle. The women's suffrage movement overlaps with the Golden Age of the mandolin orchestra, so it should come as no surprise that mandolin groups sometimes provided music for suffrage conventions, rallies, etc.

The event organizer dug out a mandolin orchestra arrangement by Louis Tocaben of Otto Schreiner's "Suffragette March" and we played it for the gig. It's from 1915 so I guess it's public domain now. I had never heard this tune and the organizer says she cannot find any recordings of it. I can post the PDFs here if anyone is interested.

No, but I think we'll try to record it at a rehearsal before we forget how to play it.

This should be everything. Mandocello and mandola parts were published in transposed notation, so I converted them.

I see the actual copyright date is 1910, not 1915.

By complete coincidence, I found the same score (plus an additional banjo part) at the Library of Congress website today while I was looking for something else completely:

I didn't realise the LOC had scanned mandolin scores -- I'll have to look more closely at what else they have! This one is part of a special collection of "Women's Suffrage in Sheet Music".

Pretty sure the Library of Congress is where we got it! Don't know how I missed the banjo part. Our guitarist doubles on tenor banjo.
