There is a style C on evilbay right now, forgot the asking price?

Right now? Where?
beautiful job. i'd love to hear it. i have never heard a lyon healy in person. i live in a mandolin backwater. there are some great players here but not a lot of unusual or top of the line high end mandolins. two of the best players here still play those seventies ibanez mandolins that bill monroe did ads for.
L&H's sound pretty good if you like the oval/round hole mandolin sound! They are different big time in compared to the Gibson round hole counterparts ans some models are pretty darn fancy, the ones I've had were all gorgeous, but just didn't have the "it" factor for me anyway as I like the more focused and power type tone of F-hole Gibson models, be it the short-necks or the long neck 5 scale of the F-5 for tonal power, presence, clarity all the goods that make a vintage F-5 what they are.
Mine is a later Style C and has bar frets.
Could you imagine posting pictures?
As for the frets, my Style C has black binding around the (black ebony) fingerboard. But the (non-original) frets' ends are visible, the slots sawn-through. I wonder, if that is the original idea, as normally (e. g. on Gibsons) the fingerboard binding covers the frets' ends.
Thanks for those pics, Lowtone. You got a beauty there.
Now I see, the frets were apparently installed flush with the fingerboard, the binding was glued and then scraped away between the frets (leaving little binding nubs at the frets' ends) - just like Gibson's approach.
May I politely ask, how you found out that there are bar frets installed - that is, without tang?
You know, you’re right Hendrix. It’s impossible to tell by direct observation because of the binding. I have been told by several luthiers that the frets on these are bar frets, so just accepted that without question. Thinking about seeking a luthier willing to set it up and maybe build a compensated bridge, and might also see if one is willing to replace frets. So perhaps we will find out for sure.
I have refretted at least half a dozen L & H carved mandolins, with serial numbers ranging from 2 digits all the way into the 2000's. All of them had standard "T" frets. I see that this is an old thread and I've posted this info before.
I'm going to have to see some good, clear photos before I will believe that any of them had bar frets.
We do see bar frets on some, but not all of the L & H bowlbacks.

PM sent.
Did you make the pick guard? If so where did you find the material. Looks great btw!
Does anyone know how much a Lyon & Healy Style B in excellent original condition (except for re-fret) is worth?
The instrument is in excellent playing condition and suitable for a professional level player (classical).
Not looking at selling but just interested.
