Default John Reischman & The Jaybirds, Deep End Sessions

One of the best total band sounds in all of bluegrass. And one of the best mandolinists on the planet. A whole set to enjoy.

I agree with Don and thanks so much for this . What is the venue where they are playing. I've seen other videos there. It looks almost like a house concert.

Love this group for sure! They are definitely one of my favorites!

Anyone know why they have the new guitarist?

Soliver, Patrick Sauber (https://campbluegrass.com/patrick-sauber/) has been playing guitar for John for several years now. I've also seen him playing banjo for Laurie Lewis. He's a wonderful musician. Jim Nunally has his own band playing with his partner Nell.https://www.nellandjim.com/.

I love how John just stands there and does his job. No flashy silly licks just for show. Just consistently great music, done near-perfectly! (and pretty much the same comments for the others in the band too)

Because he's a fantastic soloist! (plays everything actually, but just guitar with the Jaybirds) The tone he gets out of that guitar is very impressive and his solos provide the perfect foil to John's.

Thanks for the answers guys. By no means was I criticizing him at all. Just saying that the only guitarist I've seen with them is the fellow in the Salt Spring video:

The guitar player in the Salt Spring video is Jim Nunally from the SF Bay area. BTW, Patrick Sauber has played or does play banjo with The Tim O'Brien Band, and Peter Rowan. I've also seen Patrick play mandolin for John Foggerty (Credence Clearwater). Perhaps he is the ultimate side-musician?

Just adding that Patrick also plays banjo with Laurie Lewis and the Right Hands. He's a talented musician, adds texture to every band he's with.

You may also recognize Patrick from The New Main Street Singers. Here he is playing the A5 Loar - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRpglGL0Zy4

Wasn't there only one Gibson Lloyd Loar signed "A" model made? Thanks Dave, enjoyed that video.

I don’t know if that’s Patrick’s mandolin, but I’m pretty sure he has a Loar. He’s also an awesome banjo player as well!

I think he may have had it on loan for a little while. I asked Patrick about the A5 last year and he said it's probably or IS, memory is hazy, the best Loar he's had the chance to play.

Last I saw Patrick, he was playing a Gary Vessel bench copy Loar. It plays and sounds fantastic.

He is an incredible musician. I was taking a Monroe style clinic with him, it was awesome. Also a great guitar and banjo player.
His father is an incredible musician as well.
