So I snapped a pic of my mandolin and then a couple pages from the assembly instructions. I was 15 when I put it together. Made a brass truss rod cover and the strap was from an old purse of my moms...

Thanks for the info! Very cool! Yours looks just like the one I bought but in better condition. Sounds and plays great though! Thank you all for your input!

How/where did you attach the strap at the bottom?

The strap I have is very small and I was able to pull it thru the small "slot" in the tailpiece. A piece of rawhide would probably work there as well.

That's sure an interesting build. Some temptation to get stupid and build a kit myself... maybe. But first, I'll finish my basement, which I'm in process of doing now.
