    Default Tailpiece Cover

I'm hoping somebody might have a clue as to who makes the modern Gibson tailpieces, specifically the ones that use this cover. Note the sharp crisp folds. I'm not looking for one with Gibson on it, I'm just trying to find out if this quality tailpiece is available through a normal source. Yes, it looks like a sliding Gibson style tailpiece but the quality is just better. The Prucha tailpieces aren't quite this crisp as far as I have seen. Any clues?

Try Elderly repair shop or Carter Guitars, also you could ask Charlie Johnson at Mandolin World Headquarters he deals in old Gibsons 804-937-4880, his repair guy probably has some lying around.

I'm pretty familiar with what the shops carry and I'm not looking for a Gibson branded product. I'm hoping someone can identify the manufacturer for me. I'm not holding out too much hope on this one.

Is there a possibility that those tail pieces are made by Prucha? Not sure.

    I totally get that joke

I've been redirecting people to the mandolin folks at Gibson for years that couldn't get answers from Gibson customer service. I called them many years back and endured the same process.

I've been looking at the Prucha's but they just aren't the same. It's just kind of weird. They are just slightly different. I'll probably end up using a James Tailpiece on this and that's not a bad thing either.

    Mike
send those pics to Greg Boyd, he's very familiar with Prucha parts and may know who made this, if Prucha did not.
he may have some laying around in fact.

i've found more than a few things that nobody has, or knows about, at Greg Boyds.

Hey Mike I sent you a PM about tuners, David Harvey would tell you about the cover stock I'm sure! Also the tuners we want will be coming! Check your message I sent, I can't wait!

Good news about decent period correct worm over tuners. I've certainly talked to Stewmac about it to no avail, it will be nice if they actually enter the fray. As for the tailpiece I did find the base tailpiece but decided to just go with the James. It arrives Friday. I'm pretty excited about tearing into the mandola and getting the tuners and tailpiece swapped out.
