Got a couple of small cracks too.
Probably out of the series of Siminoff F5L mandos. Sound quality varies like every individual but it’s certainly worth price plus the repair cost to someone.

I had been watching this mandolin and was surprised that it hadn't sold yet. Perhaps the low feedback score but everyone has to start somewhere. I contacted the seller and made an offer that was accepted. I knew I would be repairing the two chipped points and I thought I might have to deal with the crack near the f-hole. After examining it, it looks like it's just a lacquer crack so no worries. I like the Randy Wood installed radius fingerboard. It has the familiar Gibson tone and volume plus the more modern feel. It seems like a keeper.

Glad you like it!
Nice mandolin, I had one just like it that was Wayne Benson's-but the original owner had it re-graduated as he wasn't impressed when he got it new? I think it was Dewey Farmer's originally? It was really a goodun-gone like so many others I've had.
William, that's cool! I wonder if Randy did any tweaking on this one since he had it to put the radius fingerboard on it?

He may have, Give him a call, but he may not remember as he's done thousands of modifications! No joke there-LoL, one of the best and a real nice man for sure! It looks great to me! I only wish they used the right "Loar" wood when they came out with these back in 78?
Glad someone here got it. Enjoy it, Jim. Seemed like it could be a deal.
William, does Randy mark the ones he regraduated in any way?

Nice one, Jim!
Unfortunately not that I've seen!? On any he's done for me, and the countless banjo conversions-putting a new hand made or fancy carved 5 string neck on a tenor? One just has to really look at the said instrument and talk with him or others.
