Default New member. Howdy from Balama Mozambique!

Howdy y'all mandolin folk! I've been reading this forum for a few months, and decided I'd finally join. I'm a sixteen year old Christian missionary kid in Mozambique (south east Africa) I'm the second of eight kids, and I really love bluegrass and Irish trad music. I've wanted a mandolin ever since shortly after my older brother got one, and I finally bought a Kentucky KM150 in March. I'm totally loving playing my fingers off on it!

Welcome! I'm a 58 year-old "missionary kid" (we were stationed in the Philippines). Congrats on the KM150!

    Fantastic!

I wonder if any local musicians in Mozambique are using the mandolin? I know they're used to some extent in Ethiopia, Egypt and South Africa.

Also, it's surprising how many different places around the world you can find bluegrass. You just might start a trend!

Mandolin is perfect for someone on the move. Best wishes. I've known many missionaries, some are good friends.

Thanks all! MrMando, there aren't any that I know of, and in our area there aren't many local musicians. Most of their music is either drums only or unskilled playing on a casio keyboard

Oh, silly me. I forgot to mention I'm not mozambican, I'm an American citizen born in Texas, but I've lived here my whole life.

Thanks Somorris, I'm a member of banjobenclark.com, so I think I'm set for quite a while before I learn all of his material
