Don't take common goals lightly. Your venture will be short lived if you are far more serious than everyone else in the band. You'll be frustrated in the end. This is probably the hardest issue to resolve.
I played rock for decades with the same group of really good musicians who all had families and really good day jobs. We had a common goal of striving to be really good. Our practices were disciplined and productive. We only took fun gigs. This commonality of purpose is the main thing that makes it work.
Now I'm trying to find a group of older musicians to do the same concept, play seriously and work to get better. But my chances of finding three or four others that can write, sing, play multiple instruments, and devote some time, oh, and can stay up past 9PM, is probably not going to happen.
It's being on the same page that keeps bands together.
