I trust the seller. I bought a 1945 340 from him. He accidentally copied and pasted part of the description from another of his auctions and so inadvertently stated that this had a case. When I called it to his attention after receiving a mandolin without a case. He offered to take it back (with me paying shipping) or find me a case. He was unable to find a case and offered a $33 refund which I accepted. So my total cost for the 340 was $167 and I was happy with that.

If you look at his completed ebay listings, he has sold many (about a dozen) oval hole Levin mandolins. Most of them for under $200. He told me he would sell me one of his f-hole Levin mandolins, but they are more expensive... would not quote me a price... wanted to know what I'd pay for one. So, I decided to pass on a Levin. Besides, if I was going to buy a VINTAGE mandolin with a solid carved top and f-holes, I prefer it to be American made... so I bought another Stradolin. Which, by the way, has the advantage of having an Elevated fretboard. FYI if you have never played a mandolin with an elevated fretboard, you owe it to yourself to find one and try it out. What a difference.

There are a few nice F-hole Levin Mandolins on Reverb? I never played one but they look great to me!

Yes there are four "top of the line" Levin Model 320's (later known as the Aristokrat model) for between $1,500 (for a rough one) and $2,350. Beautiful two-point mandolins but they are between two and four times the price of a comparable (top of the line) Stradolin.

I'm not sure but the quality of some of those Levin's look a wee bit better than the Stradolins that I've seen anyway? Plus I sure do love me some pearl block inlays! Also don't those Aristokrats have longer scale necks?

I have bought a couple of Levins from this seller and was happy with them. That's OK for me because I repair mandolins and sell them on. Many of those he sells by auction need work done. He sells the sound ones as Buy it Nows. If you want to bid, look carefully first.

While MOST Levin's seem to have a better fit & finish than MOST Stradolin's, I was comparing "Top of the Line" mandolins. The finest Stradolins are as good as it gets. Plus, almost all Stradolin's have elevated fretboards, which IMHO more than makes up for any difference in quality. Maybe it's just me but once I played a mandolin with a raised fretboard I could not play anything... less.

    Yes, that is an advantage.
