    Default Lyon & Healy Style A #1674 1925 - looking for info

I recently purchased this mandolin. Back in 2010 it was sold at a Skinner Auction. Other than serial number info from Hubert Pleijsier’s Washburn, I’ve not been able to find any history. If you have any information about this mandolin, I would enjoy learning about it. As of tomorrow this mandolin will be under the gentle care of Bruce Weber while he goes over it top to bottom. He will primarily be bringing the fret board up to par and a setup et al. Bruce has been fantastic helping me with this.
Here are some images of the mandolin. Thanks again if you can offer any input or suggestions on how to research

I posted this up on the other L & H thread. This is an analysis by Jake Wildwood of a mandolin very close to yours in terms of serial number.

Here's one more picture taken by Skinner Auctions in Boston, 2010.

What case is with it, there was just another thread on one of these L&H violin type 2 point scroll A's! I had one with a "I call it a baby Loar case as it looked ike a Loar F-5 case but made for the 2 point and purple" mine was an early 20's and a lower # than yours but sure can't remember the #, I may have it somewhere in my mess! Mine had a treble side pull out-a metal rod for sitting position leg type brace? What's that called? I sold it 8 months ago maybe?

Yours looks like a prime example, very clean, hardly played, all original, vulcanized rubber guard, and tailpiece cover/assembly, bridge-I'd say value right now is 4500-5G! Depending on case?

It came with the original case which seemed in reasonable condition. I don’t have a picture of it as it is currently arriving at Montana Lutherie tomorrow.

Is the case shaped or rectangular?

That is a beautiful instrument. I've been lusting after one for quite a while. Congrats on obtaining one.

Only one correction for everyone here.

Jake says:"These have a vulcanized-rubber headstock faceplate that's screwed onto the front."

Sorry, it is not rubber but an early cellulose-based plastic called vulcanized fibre. L&H calls it that or black fibre on their site.

That is all right, though. Stan Jay fell into that same "vulcanized rubber" trap. Np bounce to that material at all.

    Hi -
I reposted this thread under the forum on “Information about mandolins....”. It would helpful if future reply’s could be posted there. It seems that more people respond under that category. Thanks!
