Default The day the music burned

"It was the biggest disaster in the history of the music business — and almost nobody knew. This is the story of the 2008 Universal fire."

It sounds painfully similar to the recent fire at the Notra Dame cathedral in Paris, France. It gives me a vaguely nauseous feeling.

A half-million classic masters - gone. I can't help but wonder how future generations of pressings are going to be happen. Digital files?

Wouldn't you would have thought that stuff like that would have been stored in giant fire-proof safes/rooms, or something similar?

    Very sad.

Wonder if the Decca Records Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys masters were destroyed ?

"lost works most likely included masters in the Decca Records collection by Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Al Jolson, Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald and Judy Garland."

If he recorded in Owen Bradley's Quonset Hut, I'd say yes. It was posted on the Owen Bradley's Quonset Hut Facebook Page that most, if not all, of the Quonset Hut Decca tapes were lost.
