Thread: Looking for a clip-on tuner that works well in daylight...

Default Looking for a clip-on tuner that works well in daylight...

I just went to a jam where I could not for the life of me see my tuner because of sunlight. I have the planet waves clip on because of it's small size but it was useless in the sun.

Does anyone know of a clip on tuner that will work in daylight?

    Thanks!

I use a Boss TU-10 that switches from LED to LCD in sunlight (or maybe it's using both at the same time?) making it readable outdoors

Peterson strobe tuner. Used it outdoors at a festival this past weekend. Quite easy to read. Did see a number of folks using red Snarks (don't know which model, sorry). They seemed to work well outdoors for the owners.

Otherwise, like above, Polytune or Unitune also has a good display in sunlight.

In my experience, the NS-Mini keeps tuning even as the battery weakens AND the display dims - even if not enough to be obvious. Maybe just try a new battery? FWIW, it has beecome my go-to tuner for mandolin, guitar, and bass, indoors or out.

I love my Peterson HD Clip and in full sun I have no problem seeing it but be warned if your the kind of person who likes a tuner that just locks in this isn't for you. It is so accurate you can see a bit of drift with no audible change in pitch.

Full overhead sun a weekend or two ago. Pictures are at arm's length a bit farther than the headstock on the mandolin I play.

+1. This is the reason that I switched from the NS Micro to the Unitune.

another vote for the TC unitune. Very bright and the two colors make it obvious when you've hit the pitch. Also extremely accurate, when you tune each string in a pair, they are actually in tune with each other. Last, it is fast! It nails the pitch faster than cheaper tuners. I hate waiting for several seconds for the tuner to decide what pitch the string is at. The TC tuner is pricy but worth it for the above reasons. It's also reliable, we've been through several snarks but only one polytune.

Another plus, besides working well and being accurate it that the batteries last. I have used mine daily for a year it seems, while my partner is always changing her battery.

I've always really loved the NS Micro tuners, and they just released a new one in the last month or so with a much brighter nicer display. The clip is also redesigned and lets me hide the tuner on the lower end of my peghead. It is pretty nice!

The new display is now colored, with a bright white center letter. The rattle that used to drive me nuts in the old Micro is resolved too.
