Default Local spruce + tonewood suppliers in the Adirondacks?

I'm headed up north to the source soon and am looking for names and reccomendations for spruce and maple suppliers or mills in the NY Adirondacks where I can go through the stacks and hand select my favorite boards. 'Interested in people who have actually been to them in person, not just a web link or your favorite mail order place in Iowa .

    Thx....j

I've bought some nice figured maple at Lakeshore Hardwoods https://www.lakeshorehardwoods.com in Pulaski but I haven't actually been to their showroom yet. They've come down to NJ with the Woodworking show as a vendor numerous times, so I've seen them in person, not in situ.

Unfortunately the favorite mail order place is in Missouri. Old Standard Wood, Fulton MO. has been scouring the Adirondacks for the best logs for years.

Try Gilmer's in Portland, Oregon for a huge selection of woods. Their spruce is quality.

Swing a bit east to Tommy Lathrops millworks near Bristol VT, flew 140 curly pounds home for additional $50 on Southwest, he cut it to fit the megasamsonite. As far as I know, John at Old Standard only slabs red spruce to build his sawsheds, had a few big unsawn sticks when I was last there. As a retired state game warden, he knows people who know people who know the trees....

OP said he is heading NORTH to NY, so the advice here seems to be "go to Oregon, Missouri, and Vermont......"

OK, now I understand when some asks what is the best deal in a new F style under $1000 that the answer is always, "a used A style!!!!"
