    Default Tailpiece out of alignment

First post, joined for the wealth of info available on the forum.
I am a newby and have only started to learn the mandolin over the last 4 weeks. I purchased a second hand f style mandolin branded as a “Belmont”, after playing chord progressions on it i realized that the strings were pushed to the extreme edge of the g string side.

I saw that the tailpiece was not aligned with the finger board so a quick measure revealed that it had been installed 6mm off centre. I removed the tailpiece and filled the holes with glue and toothpicks then refitted the tailpiece.

I have repositioned the bridge and installed new strings. A check of the truss rod showed it was a bit loose so i tightened it a small amount.
Is there anything else i should look for or check. It does play a lot better. I know it is not perhaps the best to start with from all its problems.

Make sure that bridge foot/feet is/are still fitted to the top after the re-alignment of the tailpiece.

This is way common, no doubt on the old Gibson mandolins pre-war style! I've seen countless/own a few that the cover base was installed wrong so when looking at a straight on shot the cover looks off. It doesn't take much to be "off" just a few mm's.
You did it correctly, I don't believe you missed any steps! Great job.

Thanks for the feed back. Will check the bridge with some paper.

Unfortunately this still happens now and again with production instruments. I personally sent an imported mandolin back to a well known retailer a few years ago because it had this issue.
