Thread: Bouzouki built for under $1k? Any thoughts?

Default Bouzouki built for under $1k? Any thoughts?

Looking for a decent hand built bouzouki. Any Luthier in that price bracket. I've had several Asian builds but hoping a lesser well known builder might have something to offer. Even used / 2nd hand. Any thoughts?

It might help if you elaborate a bit more on what you are looking for. Long or short scale length, guitar or traditional, shaped body, carved of flat top. You can build one yourself for that price range, and this forum is a great help for that.

I don't have the tools unfortunately. Scale 650mm. Large deep body as it is for song accompaniment. Ideally carved top but unlikely at this price.

I don't think that you're going to find anyone to build you a bouzouki for less than $1k.

I think that the best deal in bouzoukis is Phil Crump (http://www.pwcrumpco.com/index.html). His zouks start at $2100. You'll have to wait for one though. It took about two years from order to delivery when he made mine a few years back.

You might want to look for used Peterson, Lafferty, or Red Valley instruments to hit your price point.

I've not tried them, but this shop in Ireland looks to have some good instruments.

The Carvalho bouzoukis from Portugal seem very reasonable on the face of it.
