Default Kaufman Kamp 2019--Who's Going? Need Advice?

Kaufman Acoustic Kamp is coming up on June 16th. Who's coming?

    This year's Mandolin Team:

    Andrew Collins
    Andy Hatfield
    Bruce Graybill
    David Benedict
    Jordan Ramsey
    Tim Connell
(and Nate Lee is teaching fiddle and Don Rigsby is teaching vocals--we'll forgive them!)

Newbies--need advice on what to bring, what to do? Ask here!

I'll be bringing some music from the Mandolin Orchestra of Kansas City to read. Kristin, Rob, and I usually organize one or two classical jams.

This will be Year 10 for me--can't wait to get there and see everybody!

Of note--three of our instructors are coming back this year as old married men: Andy Hatfield in October, Nate Lee in March, and David Benedict TODAY! Welcome to the club, guys!

This was a great camp! I thought Kaufman's mandolin instructors were outstanding this year. I've been working on the chord substitution patterns from Tim Connell, as well as drilling closest chord shapes depending on the I chord"s root, as he suggested. I think Tim's class was solid gold. I also thoroughly enjoyed and learned much from Jordan Ramsey's class. I'm loving the Dempsey Young transcriptions, and I am drilling the tasty licks Jordan shared. The concerts were awe-inspiring, the jamming was hot, and the open mic scene was jumping. I do wish I had played some with Phil Vinyard and Brad and Rob and several others. See you next time.

Hey y'all. Still enjoying the Kamp afterglow. Phil I think I may have picked a few with you on guitar in Beason, although I didn't catch your name. Were you playing an old Gibson A1?

Annnnd I cam home from Kamp with a virus that I spent the next ten days getting over. Sheesh. The fiddle classes were excellent. Nate Lee drilled some chopping and other techniques that I need to work on. Bronwyn Keith-Hines worked us out in the key of B among other breaks. Kenny Kosek taught several classic breaks and a scordatura piece from Benny Thomasson. Good work all around which I will be playing away at for the next few months. R/
    I love hanging out with mandolin nerds . . . . . Thanks peeps ...

That was me! I've been rooming with Brad Burkhalter for 9+ years. We met up with Warren Calvert and Sam White several years ago and have managed to get a suite together at Beeson the last several years. We always have a pretty good jam going in our suite. Please come back next year!

Will do. I've added Chinkapin Hunting to my repertoire after hearing y'all play it Monday or Tuesday evening. Great tune. See y'all next June!
