Thread: String gauges for emandola tuned as OM

Default String gauges for emandola tuned as OM

In the other thread this was floated as an option. Am seriously considering it. Wondering if anyone knows what gauges work well. I can also use a string tension calculator which I am pursuing now. Just start with strings that give roughtly the same tenson as what it comes with for mandola tuning.

What's the scale length of your mandola, for starters?

On a Gibson-scale mandola this just won't work at all. With a longer-scale instrument — 18" or more — it might.

Thinking of the Eastwood airline mandola (in black), 18" scale.

OK, well, Jonathan Mann posted his preferred gauges in the thread you mentioned. I'd recommend starting with those.
