Sorry, hadn't even heard of it but felt obliged to point out that Bruce Weber's Ranger eight string travel mandolin starts at $395.

Well, I haven't checked out their products in awhile now but I'm impressed that it features an acoustic soundport which is something I've never seen on any of their ukuleles. I also like that you can order them with two different types of pickups. It looks like it could be fun to plug in. I would seriously consider a Tenor guitar version if they ever decide to make one.

And when did they start making banjos and fiddles? I picked up a Kala steel string California solid body u-bass about a year ago and would have seriously considered their Timber electric bass had it been available then.

Play that which you feel is groovy, get down with your bad self, and shake your money maker if it makes sense for you to do so.

    Interesting instruments. Thanks for posting.

Honestly though I have a cheapo Cordoba Uke strung up in 5th's that sounds at lot better (I think).

But it doesn't have the hipster vibe like these do.

I too have a couple ukuleles strung in fifths (a Martin and a Pono), and I like them for what they are - east on the fingers and soft on the ears. I just thought having the floating bridge would be cool.

I actually forgot all about the Ranger - I’d say the body size is about the same, yeah?

Not sure you'll get that "Big, bright, traditional mandolin sound" with just four strings and a plastic body. On the other hand, the Fluke and Flea ukes have proved surprisingly high quality, considering their construction, so maybe...?

A bit pricey for my taste, though.
