    Default Northfield Nick

A lot of you will laugh at this but I suffered my first major nick on my Northfield F5S. Stupid me, I was doing a minor repair on the latch of my Travelite, and the dang thing slipped out of my hand and crap, THE HORROR!

Case bite strikes again. One of the best features of my NF case is the way the lid holds itself up

The first one is the hardest. Shows it is not just a case queen.

Now that's done you can play it without worrying about scratching it.

When I bought my 1965 Epiphone Texan, the guitar had multiple gouges I'm sure were caused by dragging the guitar out of the case against the latches. Horror of horrors, the first week I dragged it across a music stand trying not to step on my dog. Nice fresh three inch gash to bare wood.

Took it to my luthier who told me to find a corner under a couch, collect some fine dust, mix with a little olive oil and apply. Voila, it now matches the others. I love old beat up instruments.

That nick at the edge of the burst would be easy to fix so you could never find it if you did not know it was there.

I almost provided this service "for" a customer and his new Kimble. ALmost. Hopefully he didn't notice how close it was. I now move in slow motion whenever handling a customer's case I'm not familiar with.

Yeah, I didn't want the stress of keeping a jewel-like brand new expensive mandolin looking brand new, so I bought an older beat up expensive mandolin, and I couldn't be happier. I can beat the crap out of it and not feel bad. Took all the angst out of playing. Once they have some dings, take it as character, and then start adding more character as time goes on. Damage just means they are loved and played.

An experienced luthier can make that almost invisible. You'll always know it's there, but 95% of people looking at it will never see it.
