Default David Grisman & Stéphane Grappelli - The First Session

Just picked this up from Acoustic Disc. What a joy! First/second/third... takes of Minor Swing, 16-16, Dawg Patch, with Tony Rice, Mike Marshall, Eddie Gomez. Takes the listener right back to when this music was being formed. Fantastic!

I saw Grisman and Grappelli live at Memorial Hall at UNC around '78-'79-'80, sometime after Tony left. It was a fantastic concert, I remember wishing my dad could've seen it - he had far greater background for jazz at that time than I did. As we were going through their records in preparation for selling their house last year, I snagged the copy of the live album I gave him for Christmas (also a couple Uncle Walt's Band LPs). Kind of bittersweet, but honestly more sweet than bitter. I still enjoy listening to vinyl, despite the inconvenience.

Pretty cool that Stephane Grappelli played on the original recording w Django Reinhardt in 1937 & decades later visited N America and recorded with the DGQ
