Every time they come out of the case.
Glad to know I am not alone. My wife thinks I’m nuts when I take pictures of trees and wood and crazy knots And figure I find around.

Creativity is just doing something wierd and finding out others like it.
The flame on the back my old Hopf violin and the back of my Weber Yellowstone (as well as the medullary rays in the top) are trance inducing indeed. Even the grain on the top of my KM-150 gets me (the finish is astonishingly thin).
I have an inexpensive Squier Stratocaster that I bought almost exclusively because it has the most beautiful wood grain I have ever ever seen on an instrument. I don't play it very often, but I keep it around just so that I can open the case once in a while and say 'Wow!'.
In general, I sound better when I do that.

There are two things to aim at in life: first, to get what you want; and, after that, to enjoy it. Only the wisest of mankind achieve the second. Logan Pearsall Smith, 1865 - 1946

Yes.
1. A fellow can get lost in the depths of beautifully figured woods.
2. A photograph can never do it justice.

Something that has always bothered me -- why are the backs so much prettier than the fronts? For us, to enjoy privately, I suppose......
Or maybe, we are all playing these things backwards!!!
This might be a good time for a thread bump....
