Not that this is a direct response, but the OP should be aware that the stamp of "PAT'D OCT. 26-86" is simply the day that the tailpiece design was patented, not when it (or the instrument) was built, and that it refers to the tailpiece alone, not the instrument in general. Yes, that probably means October of 1886, while the instrument itself could be several years (or decades?) newer.
Such dates on instruments of that era are common, when parts such as tailpieces, bridges, pickguards & clamps, etc. were often bought from outside suppliers AND might each carry their own patent date. It was not unusual for a given instrument to show several dates spanning a 10 year period or more.
