One of my used instruments came with an armrest, had never tried one before. Now I am a believer, all of my instruments have them - keeps the edge from cutting in to my arm, so I can play longer! Two are from Spencer - quality armrests at a great price!

Before I got an armrest, my picking would wander out of the sweet spot toward the bridge. After, the geometry made it much less of a problem. I'm sold on armrests as well as tone guards. Lot to hang on a mandolin though.

I don't think so. I have one. I started with an ebay armrest that was too small and I like the larger size and the way it is sculpted.

They are larger than other armrests I've used but are well designed. You could contact Spencer and ask him to make you a custom one that is smaller.

Spencer custom-made an arm rest for my Blevins octave. I gave him the measurements and he knocked it out of the park. He'll work with you. I'm satisfied with all the arm rests he's made for me. On a personal note: I try to shop as local as I can whenever I can and he's a Georgia boy in Marietta.

Hey Jim, I understand your concern with their size. I actually have played with the size to make them a little smaller. I used to make them about another 1/2 to 3/4" longer and reduced their size probably about a year ago because I also felt they were a little too big. However, what you may not be able to see is that I carve a sort of groove in the middle for the arm to rest in for comfort and placement, but I've not had success making them any smaller and still being satisfied with how that turns out. But when you choose a wood species that is similar in color to your instrument's finish it diminishes the size significantly.

Just so everyone knows, I'll be on a short sabbatical for the month of May as I'll be out of town for most of the month, but hope to be up and running in June again.

Here is what I made to match the custom distressed "old violin" finish on my Silverangel. It is a distressed ebonized walnut with gold hardware to match.
