Default some really good mandolin playing in this song

meet me at the creek, billy strings band
at 2:40 starts some interesting mando.

....just not mandolin, the whole group are amazing artists. I'd say those fellows are worn out at nights end.

I like Billy Strings but I keep rewatching his videos primarily to watch his mandolin player!

Would folks agree that we can thank the New Grass Revival for that particular rhythmic pulse/solo type section? I know that's where I first really heard that approach. The mando player is Joshua Rilko I believe. Pretty sure he switched mandolin brands recently. Comes to mind anyway. Fun stuff.

The one in the above video is a Northfield with the name (partially?) taped over. I think he's playing a Gibson now but not sure about that.

I'm a Northfield owner and fan but I do think the more recent one (whatever it is) sounds better.

I love Northfield Mandos, have own several wonderful F5's from them. And, am interested in the new F5 4.0!
Joshua recently got a Wienman. They show a video of him playing it on their website. Those fellas we're getting after in the video in the Billy Strings group. Great fun.

Ah, that's a different mandolin player than I've been enjoying in other Billy Strings videos.

I met Billy at a workshop a few years ago. He seemed pretty disinterested in the whole thing. Maybe he was tired or not feeling well; I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

He needs to work on keeping his voice on the mic. He backed up and faded out on the vocals a lot. Just my .02.

Hi flatpicknut...is the other mandolin player you have seen Jarrod Walker? I had not heard of Jarrod prior to hearing about the Wienman mandolins. He too is highlighted on their website and talks about playing with Billy's group:

"I have toured with Claire Lynch the past few years and will be hitting the road hard with Billy Strings next year. I don't know if you're familiar with either of these names but they're both fantastic".

Here's one I liked. Audio isn't great for the most part but the camera is near the mandolin and catches some tasty solos.

And here's another longer video with the same mandolin player:
