    Default Mandolins in New Orleans?

    Hey all.
Any recommendations for instrument stores in New Orleans?

I'm a fairly frequent visitor to the Crescent City and, sadly, have yet to find an interesting music store. There's the New Orleans Music Exchange on Magazine St., and Webb's in the Bywater. There may be another one in the Quarter that I haven't visited. I've sort of concluded that the gazillions of excellent musicians in New Orleans either got their instruments off Craigslist or in another town.

I agree that Webb's and the Music Exchange are two good ones. International Vintage Guitars can be kind of cool if they have something you're interested in, but otherwise it'll be about a five-minute visit for you.

Richard's Music Shop near Belle Chasse shows up on Google Maps. I stopped in there a few years ago, really needing to play a mandolin after working in that area for a couple of months. The older gentleman who owns the store said he remembered having a mandolin for sale there in 1959. He had some nice horns, decent electric guitars, low end acoustic guitars, and drums, which he said is what the New Orleans music scene calls for. No demand for mandolins that he could recall. I found two low end mandolins and some some nice acoustic guitars at ... Guitar Center.
