Default New Kelley mandolin violin style

I was asked about making a mandolin violin style. Here it is an A model with 100 yr old red spruce top, northern hard maple b/s/n. Parallel tone bars, carbon fiber rod in neck. Varnish finish. It sounds good to me new so I think it will really sound good after it gets played. I used my phone and the video was done on our iPad.

Thanks guys for the kind words! I just hope the Campanella dude doesn’t get mad at me!
I was real happy with the tone, volume and overall timber of the mandolin. The new owner is happy!

Love the burst and the no dot fretboard. The color treatment on the sides is especially tasty. Home run in every way. I want one. Especially if you make it with a narrow nut and very slim shallow neck.

Hah! He didn't invent the violin, did he? Anyway, Skip, your mandolin sounds very nice. Glad to hear that the owner loves it. Will you make more of them in that style?

Jim, Joseph Cleary, the Campanella guy makes mandolin family instruments in the violin style. He was one of the first that I saw build like this. I do plan on making more. I have another A model started and a customer wants a two-point in this style. This is going to be fun!

I met Joe when he visited Carlo Aonzo workshop in NYC in his early days of building those. I was joking that you don't need his permission to copy violin stylings to a mandolin. I would love to see that two-point in that style.
