Default Interview I did with Tim O'Brien

Hi Folks, I got to speak with Tim O'Brien a couple of weeks ago on behalf of the Hudson Valley Bluegrass Music Association, and it's now up on our website:

    https://hvbluegrass.org/tim-obrien-a...ive-interview/

along with my annotated review of his new album (which is great):

The interview has some mando-lore that I think this community might find interesting.

Let me know what you think and if you're passing through the Hudson Valley north of NYC, drop in on our jams or concerts.

Great interview. Tim is one that sounds naturally musical...like he never had to learn or practice. I’m glad to hear he practiced!!! Lol
    Thanks for posting.

Thanks for posting that well-done interview.

I like Tim's musical presence; the songs tend to tell stories and are easy to picture in my imagination.

I guess I think of guys like Tim O'Brien, Norman Blake and Mike Compton as troubadours for old time music...really enjoyable stuff IMHO!

    Thanks again!

I have not interviewed Tim O'Brien but probably could have, in a way. I was standing in a coffee queue at Manchester airport 8.00am 19 years ago on my way to Australia and reckoned the guy in front of me looked like Tim O'Brien. I am a mandolin player and I just had to ask him. Yes it was him and he invited me and my girlfreind to have breakfast with him and Daryl Scott at their table. I sort of wanted to but didn't want to intrude so I politely said it was fine and didn't get in their way at all.

I had a brief discussion with him on a Gibson mandolin and he was great. I've seen him twice live in Uk and no one has a right hand technique like him.

I remember when my good friend Steve Mullins started mandolin lessons with this kid in Boulder Colorado in 1981 or so. My friend who is now a professor of music at a major University, came home with all these great scales, tunes. It was mind blowing. This kid, red hair and major chops.... Tim O'Brien. I still practice some of those very lessons. Thanks Mr O'Brien.
