I drool over these Ellis 2-points every time one comes up... and hope it sells fast. I played the first one & it was great. I gotta keep repeating: "I DON'T need another mandolin, don't need another mandolin, don't need..."

I played this one Saturday. It has a fairly modern sound, open, nice trebles. The all torrified MT2v from Collings was also stunning, but the Mowry A5 was the BIG surprise. It has that rip-your-face off bluegrass tone.

I don't know how you stand it, being near enough for regular visits to the Music Emporium.
I would think its a blessed curse, getting to see/play all these wonderful instruments, but having to leave and go home without one.......

I looked at that Ellis, and it almost caused a remission in my MAS. And I thought I was cured! What a beauty!

Please don’t use the “n” word,… its very offensive, particularly to MAS victims, such as myself…

Thank you for this informative review. Very much appreciated. I stop at ME often and very familiar with the store. I had been looking for a Gilchrist, started to warmup to Ellis models and now you have me looking at Mowry's, so thanks (I think). The sound samples on the Mowry site are impressive.

They have some great mandolins there right now. I bought the Northfield Flattop Octave they got in last week.

They are hard to come by, but it was well worth the wait. A lot of thought went into these. I think it’s a winner. You can’t have too many octaves.
