3 mandolins, one octave, and one mandola at Carter Vintage in Nashville, one mandolin at Greg Boyd's in Missoula, MT, two mandolins at Schoenberg Guitars in Tiburon, CA, one at archtop.com in Seattle. And one listed in the classifieds by an individual in East Point, GA.

If you go to Nashville, Gruhn Guitars has several mandolins in the same grade by other makers.

If you're an outdoors-y person, Missoula is a wonderful place to be. I grew up there and could hit hiking trails from my backyard, beautiful rivers (one right through the middle of downtown), clean fishing, nice people, etc.

If you end up going there, shoot me a message and I'll be happy to give some recommendations!

Oddly enough, I've never been to Greg Boyd's because I didn't start playing mandolin until after I left Missoula.

Schoenberg’s has one, that is similar to Ronnie McCoury’s. Tony Williamson at Mandolin Central just listed a 2003.

I'm *guessing* the 2003 Model 5 at Mandolin Central was Andrew Marlin's, which I'm also *guessing* is the same mandolin Ricky's playing in this video: [moderators feel free to embed]

From what I read, Marlin’s old Gilchrist was described as a 2000:

Looks like Tony may have the wrong date. His site shows #480 is indeed for sale, which was Marlin's per Steve's site, which lists it from 2000.

I believe Andrew got his Loar from Tony, and likely traded in the Gilchrist.

Maybe you're already looking at this, but there are two Gil F-style models listed for sale in the classifieds at this moment.

The one at Morgan looks familiar. Could be the one that was in the Classifieds a while back.

I’ve played the one at Greg Boyd’s and it is outstanding. It almost ruined all other mandolins for me. Bright and full without being thin or harsh. The lowest action action I’ve ever seen. Everything about it was phenomenal!

Nice! I took up mandolin after watching MO's 'Runnin Red' video. Eastman 514(?) to Signed Loar in six years? That's very cool.

I don't think Tony' site is terribly up to date. The "Recently Listed" 2003 has been on the recently listed page for several months, at least October when I inquired about it. The picture of Andrew's (while it might be back there) was there before Andrew got it. But, he may have it again. Just takes an email to find out.

That Gilchrist at Greg Boyd is a stupidly good price. It's not moving because quite frankly, the store takes less than desirable pictures--there's no other way to say it. If that one was at The Music Emporium with their world class photos it would have been gone in a week, possibly less. Note: photos do not change the true sound of a mandolin, folks. That one's a bargain.

That price is surprising and I agree with the point of presenting the instrument. When I was considering (shudder at the thought) selling an instrument, my first course of action was to look at the possible consignors and how they present instruments. There's a reason TME moves instruments as quickly as they do, they're expert at showing them off. This Gil at Greg Boyd's has a spectacular back, but you don't really see it here. Check it out on the Gilchrist archive page.

If you hover over a few pics in the link you'll notice what looks to be a sizable crack and 2 added braces screwed into the fretboard on the treble side below and near the neck joint. I suppose Willie Nelson wouldn't have a problem with it...lol's, but i guess I would.

They're not great pics but I suspect the damage (and repair required) is a deterrence and that's why the price drop.

I'm not seeing it.....what I am seeing are the pegs to hold a pickguard/finger rest, and a reflection by the neck joint?

Boy, the price on the Boyd one is quite tempting.

Maybe its not a good mandolin? Has anyone played it? Probably more useful that an online picture.

Ok my bad. I now see someone has played it but I do wonder for a mandolin to sit for that long it must have been played and passed on by many who didn't think it was the one. Gilchrist makes wonderful mandolins but some are better than others and some are... Wonder if this is one of those.
