Thread: EMD stress...who has it?

    Default EMD stress...who has it?

Many of you may have been afflicted by something, I am now confessing. I am and have traditionally been, tortured by EMD (Eat My Dust)...seems simple enough as a chord progression. I am here today to affirm my year long dedication to this tune. I will increase my skills by playing EMD every single day for a year. Who's with me?

Love that tune and could play it every day for a year. I was playing it yesterday with a friend who is an excellent fiddle player.
I like to start it off slow and jazzy like on DGQ 20 and then pick it up to full speed.

I've worked on it a good bit lately and sent in a video exchange in Mike Marshall's Artist Works class on it. Pretty cool to get some ideas from him on it!

Performed this song for the first time with my band on Wednesday night.

Not my best takes on the prepared riffs, but when I took the second time around for a walk outside the lines it worked beautifully.

The audience gave a good response, so EMD got its way into our future setlists.

No worries! It is a great way to really learn the tune, and the chording in the jazzy version is great to throw in on the faster version, once you get it under your fingers. And starting with the slower version and then jumping to the standard speed gives a lot of dynamism to the performance. We do the same thing with tunes that lots of people know in the fast incarnation, and they groove on the slow start. Then when we ramp it up, they cheer because they suddenly realize that they know the tune we've been playing, they just didn't recognize it at first.
    Enjoy!

The version on this CD is better to learn with. Slower than orig but not jazzy as from DQG20

On the original DGQ, midway through his break Tony Rice does this lick in the bass strings with some filthy spinal vibrato that makes my socks go up and down.

EMD certainly stresses my left hand, especially bouncing off the open D string on the A part.

Enjoyed that EMD VE Drew--thought that was you.

The coolest way I ever did it was jamming with an alto saxophonist. It really fits saxophone well.
