Thread: Tenortrope spotted

    Default Tenortrope spotted

At our weekly sing around, one of the guys brought something he had inherited from his uncle. He said it was a banjo with a resonator. I told him that it is a Tenortrope and that it was supposedly designed by Cliff Edwards, aka: Ukulele Ike, in conjunction with the Dopyera Brothers.

I'm sorry that I didn't snap a photo or get a video of it. He had it is an open tuning and it sounded great.

They're weird, wonderful things: a resonator tenor guitar disguised as a banjo, look totally wacky but sound surprisingly good. I used mine on a recording and the mid-range sat perfectly in an acoustic mix.
