Re: Ebay 1907 Gibson?
I think you have, in the first case, a 1907-sh Gibson 3-point F-2 body, and God-knows-what else. Definitely oversprayed, replaced (and odd) tailpiece, major headstock joint repair, replaced fingerboard, still with original Handel tuners, and a recent Fiberglas case.
Nowhere near $3K value, IMHO, but if acquired at a reasonable price, could be coaxed back into close-to-original state. Not for me to attempt.
The seller's florid prose is another warning sign. Three-point F-2's are not superb bluegrass mandolins, as a rule; I bought mine to have a really neat oval-hole to play in a Celtic band.
I won't be surprised if this one sells, even at the inflated price, since "Gibson F" and Handel tuners are demand stimuli. I ain't buyin', though.
