Default FIRST Octave on the way! Pono MND-20C

You guessed it, tax return time! My incredible wife suggested we might turn that into an octave mandolin, and I was off to the races

After a fair amount of research, and then a recommendation from a trusted and knowledgeable friend, and then a fair amount more research and general twitchiness, I decided on: https://themandolinstore.com/product...loss-mahogany/

They are installing a pickup tomorrow and shipping it off to me, and I will now spend a couple days pretending to focus on anything other than refreshing the tracking information. And the listing page. And a couple youtube videos of folks playing a similar instrument. And back to the tracking information.

So, while I twitch and wait:
    - Anybody playing one of these lovely Pono octaves, and willing to add your 2 cents on the experience?
    - Anybody have recommendations for an intermediate mandolin player, getting an octave mandolin for the first time, for instructional and tune resources?

All righty. Being inspired by many brave folks on these forums, I am sharing a video of me showing and playing my new octave mandolin a bit, even though it feels quite awkward.

Short version? It will take some time to get comfortable on an octave mandolin, but I am going to spend a LOT of time working on it, partially because I got such a lovely instrument. Pono octave mando = good stuff.

I tried to post that video using the forum video imbed tool, but it didn't show up (when I pasted that same share link into the tool which I ended up just using raw in the edited post).
Any ideas on what I was doing wrong?

Congrats! I have an OM that spends far too much time on the stand. Have fun!

Sounds very good, nice and deep with good sustain. I’ve had a couple, and pretty much make up tunes, chords, and drone all night long. My current Octave is really a Bouzouki, that I’m tuning ADAD right now. Enjoy that monster.

All righty, I'm ~5 days in on my octave mando adventure, and here's some progress on a tune. Still rough and slow, and I can't remember the name of the tune for the life of me, but the progress is palpable and I am loving this instrument!

Y'know pheffernan, I thought your advice on imbedding vids was the silver bullet for me, but I always get an error showing when I try to view the video that _looks_ like it imbedded so smoothly this way! Have you ever run into that?

"An error occurred. Please try again later." ..highly informative error messaging
