Fun read; even more fun playing one!
Great article! Thanks for sharing! Congratulations to Steve and well deserved!!!
Just came across this article today. I’m fascinated by the instrument building process (and I’m a proud Sorensen FX owner), so the article had everything I was looking for. Congratulations, Steve!
I was excited to see my personal VX on the cover. I’m really glad to see Sorensen mandolins getting the pr they deserve. I’ve been playing my VX for over two years now and it’s still my favorite overall mandolin I’ve ever owned.
I heard Darren Nicholson's Sorensen right after he got it. It sounded pretty good then. He was playing it (and the octave) last night in Sylva, NC. The thing is a monster now. I have heard him play it several times in between and each time I have been a little more impressed.
Out of tune and out of time.
To say that I was elated to see a Sorensen mandolin on the cover of Bluegrass Unlimited, with a very well-written accompanying article, would be putting it mildly. I acquired a Sorensen mandolin in 2017 ('Number 005') and I named her Mary. I was one of those who never felt "worthy" to have a really good instrument. "I don't play very well, so why spend the extra money?", was my reasoning. But then, after playing Mary at the CBA Grass Valley Father's Day festival, I realized that I was wrong. A good instrument will a good player make. But being a superior instrument, Mary made me sound better, thus inspiring me to play more, learn more and enjoy more. And isn't that what playing an instrument is all about? Congratulations on making the cover, Steve! Truly well-deserved!
