I love the purity of this video. Tim and his Nugget mandola leave nothing else to be desired. A man, his mandola and a great song written by J.D. Hutchison.
Enjoy!

I have always enjoyed watching Tim O'Brian play. He is always relaxed and there is no wasted movement in either hand. I wish I could say the same for myself.

Thanks for the tune D. He accompanied Mark Knopfler on a celtic-like tour a few years back at the Pantages here in Hollyweird. He played fiddle, mandolin, his mandola and a tele and absolutely tore it up on everything. Gifted, very gifted.
but all within the pocket, I might add. A very generous musician.
Always enjoy hearing Tim do whatever he wants to do.
Lotta reverb in that small room. That Nugget mandola must be a rare beast. What beastly tone too!

Good stuff! Really enjoyed that. O’Brien is right up there with the best. Lp

Always a first rate performer, and no exception there!
Tim O'Brien is a National Treasure.
I very much like the “no frills” execution. Letting the Mandola “speak” its own voice as honestly as his own.

Love love love Tim O'Brien!

I have a black-top,A5-style,haircut headstock mandolin that is my Tim O' Nugget look-a-like mando. Will Kimble made it.
Fun to play Lands End on it.
Red on Blonde. So much tasty mando. His playing is inspirational.
Thanks for sharing! Great tune.
Thank you for sharing the video Demetrius; love Tim O'Brien too, and have been fortunate to have him come play at a local community center here in northern California the past two years. A National Treasure indeed.
mtucker, I saw him play with Mark Knopfler on that tour as well; he was great as always, and it struck me that Knopfler and O'Brien share a great understanding and feel for the relationship between British Isles and American traditional music. Many beautiful examples of both, from both of them.
And couldn't agree more with Charles E's appreciation for Tim's relaxed economy of movement. Something to strive for.
He's a great singer too, of course. I could go on and on ...
I had the pleasure of taking a class from him at the late Mandolin Symposium back in 2005 or 2006. He played "A Mountaineer is Always Free" in a small room with about 10 of us in attendance. It made the hair on my arms stand up.
