When people you have never met pass away and they make a difference in your life. For me this is such an occasion. I never met Paul and I would not have recognized him were we to pass on a street but this thread is something that will make a difference to me. I got so many good tips, so enjoyed his intricate and clever diagrams using Photoshop so skillfully to make things understandable, and shared so much information with Paul over the years. I was a little shocked (had no idea he was ill) and certainly, like others saddened to hear this. At this time my only wish is for all the best for his family.

Just a nice, sweet intelligent, talented person, generous in the way he would share his knowledge and skills. His roots are deep going back to the early folk music days and could play many kinds of world music & odd instruments. Like Lynn Dudenbostel I'd see him yearly at the Mandolin Symposiums. He also worked on several of my mandos over the years. Truely a one of a kind! Shalom Aleichem Paul........... may peace be with you.......

My cousin lives in San Francisco and emailed me since he wanted to find a Gypsy jazz guitar. I put him in touch with Paul only a few months ago and he wrote him a long email with his recommendations. One of the most knowledgeable folks on this earth on things musical.

Paul was a true gem of the community and a wonderful man.

I have redwoods growing in my backyard transplanted from his.

Tonight he picks a few tunes with Django and Bill and Les.....

Very, very sad news indeed. I always enjoyed Paul's common sense approach to lutherie. He seemed to be a very unassuming person, not really aware of the high esteem in which he was held on here - R.I.P. Paul

Paul was kind enough to try and help me with an information request based on a post he had made many years ago. I appreciated his knowledge and his attempt to help me with my question to which I received a very prompt and helpful response. I am sorry to read of his passing. He will be missed by so many.

I had the priviledge and pleasure of having him work on a few of my instuments over the years. Working with him was never just a business transaction. When I dropped off instruments he would always make coffee, show me interesting projects he was working on, philosophize about the world and turn it into a wonderful visit. He was a magnificent musician and his luthery work was among the best. He introduced me to the phrase “clown barf” to describe the multi-colored sheets of plastic he turned into flat picks! Rest in peace Paul.

Wonderful news that his website will continue. I had the pleasure of interviewing Paul years ago, though I didn't know him well. He did help with advice via email on more than one occasion. I'm sorry I never got to meet him in person. May he rest in peace.

So sorry to hear this news as the last time I emailed Paul it sounded like his Cancer was under control and he was in good spirits. I met he and Robin in my Antique store in Carmel and took various instruments to they're home in the mountains. Geez, really sad news.

I'm a bit late here, but I heard about this earlier

Paul was very special. I've known him as an internet acquaintance for over 20 years. We swapped emails and then became moral support buddies for odd repairs. He would email me with "what do I do here"? and I would email similar questions.

He was a Prince and a true Gentleman. I wish Robin and family the best as they proceed from this loss
