Hey all,
I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can find some Eastern European tunes. I'm looking for something like Russian/Bulgarian/Hungarian walkz/polkas/etc - short, fiddle-style tunes with an Eastern European origin.
Thanks a lot in advance!

I may have gotten these collections of Hungarian tunes from a search of ABC archives. I am not sure where they came from. I converted them to pdf in notation.

Also, check out Lark in the Morning's Free Music Library. Balkan, Bulgarian, etc. That should hold you for a little while.
And here is a book of Russian Tunes for Balalaika.

Here are a couple of books:
Cooper, Pete. Eastern European Fiddle tunes. Schott World Music. (with CD);
and the second that I bought through Mandolin Cafe ads,
Alexander, Allan & Aleksandra. Balkan Music for Mandolin. (with CD, printed by authors).

Robert Johnson's mother, describing blues musicians:
"I never did have no trouble with him until he got big enough to be round with bigger boys and off from home. Then he used to follow all these harp blowers, mandoleen (sic) and guitar players."
Lomax, Alan, The Land where The Blues Began, NY: Pantheon, 1993, p.14.
Here are a bunch of polkas from a defunct world music site:

I have http://www.magicviolin.co.uk/gypsy-f...nfo/4594498111 which I bought before going on a course with the author.
The book takes you on a tour of Eastern Europe, with tunes from each region. The course was specifically Macedonian tunes, odd time and key signatures, but fun to play when you get your head into them.

You guys rock. Seriously. Thanks a lot! I'll post back after I've had a chance to look through these and tell you what I'm playing and enjoying!

Here are a bunch of additional tunes from that defunct website. It is close to 20MB so I list it at my dropbox public link. Let me know if that works.

Here's a collection from various Italian mandolinpublishers. There is an Index inside the Eastern European folder.
