    Default NMD: Northfield F2S

OK, the actual New Mandolin Day was last Wednesday. I've been playing too much to post.

I tend to favor oval holes over f-holes, and had been ogling Northfields for a while, so when this F2S appeared at Fiddler's Green and consequently in the Café Classifieds, I took the plunge.

I love it. It plays easily, has a rich, complex voice, and is downright pretty besides. There's a lot of music in this one begging to be let out.

Thanks and props to Northfield, the Café, and Fiddler's Green Music Shop!

Was that the one with the sunburst finish? Send pics if you can.

Although I have not been to Andros, I have been to a number of the Bahamian out islands and don't recall seeing anyone playing mandolin. Are you going to bring it to some Rake and Scrape?

    Enjoy your new Mandolin!

I'm not sure what kind of burst it's called; maybe tobacco? Personally I think it looks like milk chocolate and honey. It's a lovely finish. I'll be more than happy to post photos as soon as I can take any that come close to doing it justice.

The mandolin isn't a frequently encountered instrument in the Bahamas. In fact I probably own more of them than anyone else in the country. That doesn't take many … but it may be as close as I come currently to mandolin-related bragging rights.

The main axe I play publicly right now is my Eastman 805, which is quite a little monster in its own right. It might be a while before I take out the Northfield in any context besides a recording session or a sparsely attended jam. However, mandolins work quite well so far for every kind of music I've played except for maybe metal.

Nice! Congrats, can’t wait to see pics. I grew up near Ft. Lauderdale and spent mucho time in Barharmas as my English dad used to say. A great place! Enjoy and send some warm sun...not snow out west please!

Congrats! I love the tone from oval hole mandolins. I have an Eastman and a Big Muddy.

    Enjoy!!

There is something very appealing about an F style oval.
