Looks like MAS has taken over again. Did he get a Loar? Great music as always.

He sure did! Pretty sure he’s done with the MAS stuff now. Im super stoked for him though, you can tell how excited he is to play that beauty in these latest videos...
Love this. Thanks for posting. Like folk chamber music. Quiet acoustic vespers. Awesome talent. They were great out the gate but how really fantastic they've gotten and seem to keep the same humility. I'm sure there are a lot of us old fogies who feel they've watched them sort of grow up over the years through their utube concert performances- though thats an exaggeration considering they both seemed like old souls in a way-- born all grown up. Glad to see they are getting some of the recognition and following they deserve.
So anyone know about the Gibson ? I didn't know he had one. Sounds great.
No matter where I go, there I am...Unless I'm running a little late.
Dem thanks for always digging up these great videos. This is a great one. The Loar sounds so good and you're right, he's totally grooving on it. Love the arrangements...dig the lone snare with the brushes

Absolutely love these guys. Sprung for a Loar huh? I’m going to listen to this when I have the time to sit down uninterrupted but I don’t know how you could improve on the tone he pulled from his Gil!

Thanks for posting this. Love the stripped down arrangements. Really shows how well the songs are crafted.
And that Loar sounds exquisite (but still totally Andrew).
I find it somewhat curious that they were recently on Live From Here with Chris Thile, and ... presto!... Andrew has a Loar.
Which also begs the larger question: does all MAS end with The Loar....?
Thanks from me too, Dem. This was a great listen. I had to pity the DJ that he didn't get the pun of the band's name! But yes, the Loar does sound lovely. Can't wait to hear it live next weekend. Anyone know more about the specifics of the instrument? I would guess the Tony Williamson connection might have led to this acquisition.

They’re both very appealing, and I greatly appreciate their musicanship, but all of their material I find depressing, not just this album. Sorry, that’s just me.

I've been following them for a while now. The early videos had them playing a home made guitar. As time progressed the venues got bigger and the instruments got better, and don't forget they are a tax write off.
They have the most appealing sound, and Andrew Marlin writes great songs.

I'm not so sure it is Loar something doesn't look 100% correct to me. Perhaps early post Loar FP with some finish work done... Or F-4 conversion? Body shape is certainly correct but the top finish and headstock/neck don't seem to match Loar era. Or Paganoni?
Hard to tell from the angles of the video though.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone! I read this and couldn’t help but respond. I did finally get a Loar through Tony Williamson signed march 31 1924. It has been played a lot through the years and most of the top coat is worn off but, there is no overspray. The neck and headstock is bound in white binding which they sarted doing on those late 24 batches. Cheers!

Many decades ago I played in a folk duo. Folk music is, or can be depressing music. I used to say " we don't sing these sad songs to depress you, but to make you feel good about your life. See how bad the person in the song has it"
They have a great sound. Haven't seen them live yet.
THE WORLD IS A BETTER PLACE JUST FOR YOUR SMILE!
Thanks for the details, Andrew. Curious if you do anything differently with respect to live sound with this one, as opposed to the Gil?
Also, I saw on the Sullivan fb page that Ella is "single again" and back in the PNW. That one is prominent on the new album, right?
And assuming you still have the F?
Still just using a beta 57 for shows. Sold all of my mandos except the Sullivan F. I played Ella on Tides of a Teardrop and was sad to see it go but...
All in.... atta boy I'll miss that Gil, tho.
Congrats on the Gibson. It sure sounds nice on the clip above - looking forward to seeing it in action in Seattle in a few weeks (out of town for the hometown PDX show, but I'm not a fan of the Crystal Ballroom, anyway), and especially happy to see you guys back at Pickathon this year!
Thanks for giving us all a window into the fulfillment of a mandolin dream for many here. That Gibson was powerful at Thalia Hall this weekend. I hope Ella has moved on to a new owner who will showcase her glorious tones. But I'll enjoy listening to her on the new album.
