Yeah, I think people who don't use their real name are fake.
If lots of people knew me, I'd be famous.
Then I'd change my forum name to Ortsa so no one could figure out who I am.

No matter where I go, there I am...Unless I'm running a little late.

Flatpick-L had a lot of well known players posting but it was semi private. Dan Crary, Roland White, Marcy Marxer, Steve Kaufmann and Tut Taylor as well as Jack all posted somewhat regularly. Several Winfield champions posted regularly including Tyler Grant and Andy Hatfield. Tut Taylor would occasionally send personal e mails as well when the mood struck him. It was nice and unfortunate the list lost so much activity.

I Googled my name only to discover that I’m a restaurant critic! So don’t eat at <<redacted>> I had the worse meal of my life there
I thought the whole point of using my real name was to become famous.

There’s another quote which decorum prohibits my sharing but it refers to a couple of longtime friends of mine when they had a duet act, they were really fun. Bruce was asked to offer a statement, he did and, finished with :
“There, is that nebulous enough for you?”
God I miss that guy!

I guess I'm of two minds when someone famous posts. For instance, I always get a bit of a giddy thrill when Dawg posts even though I've met and chatted with him a couple of times. Then again, there are plenty of members who's contributions to the forum over many years lends me a bit more credence to what they have to say. Meaning, just because X player is famous, I would take their advice as offered for what it is, advice.
We have a fair number of what I consider mandolin glitteratti as builders and as players who have freely shared their advice and encouragement here (both are invaluable). I can understand why a certain person may not want their identity known to keep their inbox from getting flooded and then feel either overwhelmed writing back or worse risk looking like a jerk because they didn't.
I wouldn't impose that rule on anyone. I prefer if someone's username is their name (pseudonym for the reasons Scott put in the thread on updating your user name). The only downside when someone goes from a handle to their actual name is linking the two back together, sometimes with only an avatar to work with.
All that said, I think the working mandolinists we would love to hear from and have chime in are hopefully pretty busy and not just hanging out here all the time posting. I might be wrong. Won't be the first time!

If I were a famous mandolin player I would certainly contribute to the forum's under my own name.
I would answer questions such as " What is the best mandolin under one hundred thousand dollars".
"What is the best and most reliable tour bus".
Or pose the question " Where is the best place to get a decent meal at midnight in (insert your town name here) after the gig".

Always a Bridesmaid, never a Bride! Have genuinely famous friends, but not me.
I’ve searched my name and find only myself, my father, and my grandfather. They are both gone so I may be “Homer the last”.
